I was first properly introduced to yarrow on a small island while camping with a friend. They had pointed yarrow out as we traversed along the pebbled shoreline. Knowing this friend as a bit of a herbal encyclopedia, I asked “What would you use it for?”
Many things as it turns out. A tea for heart health. A breaker of fevers. A disinfectant. A circulation enhancer.
I haven't worked much with yarrow despite my fondness for the plant. I grow a multicoloured variety outside my living room window and have done for several years, but 2026 has been the first year that I've clipped the flowers for drying.
Perhaps I'll use the flowers for tea when I am ill, or maybe I will soak the yarrow—the stem, leaves and flower in oil to use in a healing salve.
